SBM, take a bow! The first thought which crossed my mind when I saw the photos, was the SBM predictions made years ago, that Ranveer will be the first star to go nude. And it came true just as you predicted.
ReplyDeleteOK- firstly, credit where it's due and doff of the hat to Ranveer for having the chutzpah to do this nude photoshoot. As you said, he's been inching towards this for years, and apart from his confidence in his physique, an ingredient for this decision surely was Ranveer's rather showboaty persona. That loud, energy bunny, life of the party personality is good sometimes, sometimes misfires (like in his horrendous sartorial choices which are a plain eyesore).
ReplyDeleteThat said, while the photos are definitely a step forward in hopefully more such bold and candid photoshoots, frankly this set is rather ho-hum and mundane - both in the conceptualization of the shots, and the execution of poses. If one compares to leading contemporary male nude photography masters like Paul Freeman, Michael Stokes or Haruehun Airry - these snaps do really nothing to convey any real sense of macho sensuality. Several of Ranveer's poses unfortunately landed up looking like a parody of female ballerina poses - nearly all his standing poses in his briefs, for example. While he should have conveyed a raw, rugged masculinity, almost all of those landed up looking like a graceful, delicate dance execution. Surely that wasn't the intent? Even the snap of him lying face down on the carpet - where was the earthy sensuality of a rugged, naked man? Again, the pose with the knee pulled up coyly conveyed more of a graceful, almost feminine energy, than any powerful masculine appeal. Somehow, it seemed the photographer & creative director based this off the SI swimsuit edition while watching female models, rather than the male!! Really hoping we have someone like Aditya Roy Kapur do something like this, but do better with the theme.
